How do I export my Planboard standards coverage to a PDF or CSV?

Often you'll want quick access to your standard sets and coverage of those standard sets outside of the Chalk platform. The Standard Export feature allows you to move your standards (and the associated coverage) to both PDF and CSV (Comma-Separated Value) formats. This guide will show you how to export to either format, making your curriculum data easier to use in the real world.

Finding the Export Menu

The export menu can be found by clicking on the gear menu icon in the top right of your screen, then clicking on Standards:

This will bring you to the Standards page. From here you'll be able to see all your subjects, as well as the standards coverage for each section. If you've assigned a curriculum set to your subject, it should look like this:

This indicates the number of standards each of our two Science sections have covered in the "Ontario - Grade 8 Science and Technology" standard set. On the left is the progress of each section. Click on the section you want to view.

Let's proceed by clicking the Export button on the top right of the widget.

That will bring up the Standards Export Window, as shown in the next step.

There are a couple required and optional steps before we can export our standards.

Required Options for Exporting

There are two required steps once we've begun to export. We'll need to select both the sections and the curriculum sets that we want to include in our export. Click on the 'Sections to Export' and 'Curriculum Sets to Export' buttons to bring those up.

From there, that will bring us to screens showing the sections and standard sets available to export. In this case, we just want to see the coverage of the "P-Scales - English Reading" set for Section 1, so we click into each screen and click on the section and standard that we want:

Now we're ready to export our standards.

Exporting your Standards Coverage

Once we've chosen our sections and curriculum sets, we're just about ready to go. All we have to do now is select our format - this will default to PDF, but we can switch it to CSV if that's what we prefer:

Now that we've got that sorted out, just click the blue Export button in the bottom right, and we'll get a CSV file filled with data on our sections. Importing it to a spreadsheet program (Here we're using Numbers) shows me this:

Alternatively, the PDF export will look like this:

And that's it! We've done all it takes to export our standard coverage to a more portable format. However, we can further customize our output so that it is easier to read.

Optional Settings for Exporting

You'll notice on the Standards Export Window that there's a Print Options menu that we didn't explore above. Clicking that will bring us into this screen:

We'll go through each of the four above options in turn.

Sort By will change the order that the standards appear in:

  • First Standard to Last will sort in ascending order of the code.
  • Last Standard to First will sort in descending order of the code.
  • First Covered, Then Not Covered will put all the standards that have been taught before standards that have not been taught.
  • First Not Covered, Then Covered will put all the standards that have not been taught before standards that have been taught.

Filters will change the standards that appear:

  • None will not filter the standards, and all of them will appear.
  • Covered Only will only output standards that have been covered in at least one lesson.
  • Not Covered Only will only output standards that have not been covered in at least one lesson.

Margins will change the space between the edge of the page and the beginning of the content on the PDF. One-InchHalf-Inch, and Minimal margins are available.

Print in colour will toggle whether or not to use colour on the export. This is to ensure that the export will be readable on black and white printers. For reference, below is a comparison of the same export, where one is in colour, and the other is in black and white:
