Chapter 4: Billing

Chalk Gold is an optional premium offering for Planboard that enables you to have advanced functionalities such as custom colours, Google Classroom integration, lesson search, and more. You'll also receive one-on-one concierge support and help contribute to the development of Planboard.

This learning guide will help familiarize you with the features of the Chalk Gold subscription. While this guide will answer many common questions, please reach out to us for specific questions at support@chalk.com or through our in-app Live Chat service (available Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm EST).

How do I sign up for Chalk Gold?

While Planboard is a comprehensive and free planning tool, we do offer an optional premium service. Chalk Gold helps you better personalize your planner and share it with others. You can find more information about Chalk Gold here.

Step 1:

Hover over the gold arrow in the top-right corner of any page in Chalk, then click the Upgrade button that appears.

You can also navigate to the Billing page by clicking your profile picture in the top-right corner, then clicking Billing.

Step 2:

Select either the annual or monthly billing option. Please note that annual billing is charged upon upgrading to Gold, and the next bill will be automatically charged one year after your subscription sign-up date.

Step 3:

Enter your credit card information below, including the expiry date and card verification code.

If you have received a promo code from Chalk or through a referral, you can enter it into the field and click Apply.

Click Upgrade when finished.

Step 4:

Success! You are now subscribed to Chalk Gold and have access to premium features, one-on-one video support, and more!

You will receive a welcome email detailing our current Chalk Gold features and information on how to contact your Chalk Gold Concierge.

My payment was not accepted! What do I do?

Payment for Chalk Gold subscriptions is managed through the Stripe payment platform. If you receive an error when attempting to sign up for Chalk Gold, it may be due to an unsupported payment method or your banking institution may need to approve the transaction.

If you are having difficulty with successfully signing up for Chalk Gold, please reach out to us via Live Chat or by emailing us at support@chalk.com and we will be happy to help resolve the payment issues with you.

How do I switch from a monthly to annual subscription?

This article will show you how to update your subscription plan for Chalk Gold. You do not need to enter any payment information for free teacher accounts.

Step 1:

Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner of any page in Chalk, then click Billing.

Step 2:

Click the button under your current subscription information labelled Switch to Yearly or Switch to Monthly, respectively.

Step 3:

Please ensure you read the text in the confirmation window.

If switching from the monthly to the yearly plan, you will be charged $99 per year and will receive a prorated discount for the remainder of the current billing period. Your card will be charged immediately for the balance of the upcoming billing year.

If switching from the yearly to the monthly plan, you will be charged $9 per month and will receive a prorated discount for the remainder of the current billing period. If the refund is greater than $9, you will receive the remainder as an account balance that will be used towards future payments. Otherwise, your card will be charged immediately.

Click Change Plan to confirm.

How do I update my payment information?

This article will show you how to update your payment method for Chalk Gold subscriptions. You do not need to enter any payment information for free teacher accounts.

Step 1:

Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner of any page in Chalk, then click Billing.

Step 2:

Click the button under your current payment information labelled Update Payment Method.

Step 3:

Enter your updated credit card information below, including the expiry date and card verification code.

Click Update Payment Method when finished.

How do I get a receipt or invoice?

If you are looking to expense your Chalk Gold subscription through your school, you may contact support@chalk.com to request a receipt. If you require special notes on the receipt, please let us know. Please note that this is only available for Chalk Gold Yearly subscribers.

How do I cancel my subscription?

This article will show you how to cancel your Chalk Gold subscription. Please read this article if you wish to delete your Chalk account.

Step 1:

Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner of any page in Chalk, then click Billing.

Step 2:

Click the button under your current payment information labelled Cancel Subscription.

Step 3:

Please select a reason for why you are cancelling your subscription. We're sorry to see you go, but your feedback is very much appreciated!

Click Yes, Cancel Subscription when finished. You will still have access to all Chalk Gold features until the end of the current billing period.

Can I get a refund for Chalk Gold?

If you are subscribed to Chalk Gold on an annual payment plan, Stripe will automatically issue a prorated refund for the duration of your subscription once you cancel your membership. Please note that switching from a yearly to monthly subscription does not refund the remaining balance, but adds a prorated credit to your account that will be used for future monthly payments.

No refunds are available for teachers who subscribe to Chalk Gold on a monthly basis. Upon cancellation, you will continue to have access to Chalk Gold features until the end of the current billing cycle.
