Chapter 2: Unit Templates

Chalk Curriculum allows you to create organized unit plans in a centralized and collaborative way. Ensure alignment with multiple standards in your curriculum design across buildings and classrooms, and personalize your classroom instruction for outcome based education.

This learning guide will help familiarize you with the features of Chalk's Curriculum solution for users with Administrator privileges. If you want to learn how to take advantage of this solution as a curriculum creator or publisher, please see our Curriculum for Creators and Publishers guide.

Note: Only individuals with the permission Curriculum Template Editor in your institution will have access to Templates within Curriculum.  If you would like this added to your account please reach out to your institution's administrator that is leading your Chalk implementation or email support@chalk.com.

How do I view a Curriculum Map Template?

This is part of our Curriculum Solution. You will not have this option if you are a free user.

This article is a quick guide on how to view a Curriculum Map Template within your institution.

Note: This is a feature only available to users with the applicable permissions as allocated by the Admin of your institution.

Step 1:

Click the Curriculum button from the menu at the top of the page.

Step 2:

Select the Templates tab from the left sidebar.

Step 3:

Select the template you want to view.

How do I edit a draft of a Curriculum Map Template?

There are plenty of ways to customize and edit a Curriculum Map Template to best meet the needs of your institution and create the best Curriculum Maps for your subjects. This article is a guide on how to do so.

Note: This is a feature only available to users the designated permissions as assigned by the Admin of your Institution. If you do not have this permission you will not be able to view or edit Curriculum Map Templates.

Step 1:

From the Templates page in Curriculum, select the template you want to edit.

Step 2:

Here are a few things you can do with the template:

Header

  • Edit Template Name: Click into the textbox to edit the name of the template
  • Switch views: If the template was published previously, you can switch between draft and current views.

Sidebar

  • Reorder fields: Click and hold the three lines inside a field name, and then drag it to the desired location.
  • Access other outlines: Click the Unit Outline header to access outlines such as Course Overview

Fields

You can add 2 types of fields:

  • Text Field: This allows for rich text editing, Google file integration, attaching resources as well as standards. This field can be added multiple times in the template.

  • Standards Field: This tracks the standards associated with this unit and has the option to enable or disable Learning Objectives. This field can only be added once in the template.

Hover over the field for more actions, such as:

  • Moving the field with the up and down arrows
  • Delete the field with the trash icon

How do I create a custom Curriculum Map Template?

This is part of our Curriculum Solution. You will not have this option if you are a free user.

While Chalk offers the already created UbD template, institutions are welcome to start from scratch to create their own. This article will help you start to create your own Curriculum Map Template.

Note: This is a feature only available to users the designated permissions as assigned by the Admin of your Institution. If you do not have this permission you will not be able to view or edit Curriculum Map Templates.

Step 1:

Select the Templates option from the left sidebar in Curriculum.

Step 2:

Click the button to create a custom template.

How do I edit a published Curriculum Map template?

This is part of our Curriculum Solution. You will not have this option if you are a free user.

Sometimes you will need to update your Curriculum Map Template in order to best suit the needs of your institution and the Curriculum Authors creating the content within the map.

Note: Publishing a Curriculum Map Template will not update existing Curriculum Maps. Contact support@chalk.com if you want to update existing Curriculum Maps with the updated template you published.

Step 1:

Select the Templates option from the left sidebar in Curriculum.

Step 2:

Select the published Template you want to edit.

Note: The status of a template (draft/published) is indicated by the tag on the Template card.

Step 3:

Click the Create Draft button on the top-right.

Step 4:

In the pop-up that appears, select Create Draft to continue.

How do I publish a Curriculum Map Template?

This is part of our Curriculum Solution. You will not have this option if you are a free user.

In order to use your Curriculum Map Template for your institution’s curriculum maps, you will first need to publish the Template.

Note: Publishing a Curriculum Map Template will not update existing curriculum maps. Contact support@chalk.com if you want to update existing curriculum maps with the updated template you published.

Note: This is a feature only available to users the designated permissions as assigned by the Admin of your institution. If you do not have this permission you will not be able to view or edit Curriculum Map Templates.

Step 1:

Select the Curriculum Map Template you want to publish.

Step 2:

Click the Publish button on the top-right.

Step 3:

In the warning pop-up that appears, click the Publish Template button.

How do I edit the global Curriculum terminology for my institution?

This is part of our Curriculum Solution. You will not have this option if you are a free user.

Chalk is used by institutions around the world, and terminology can differ in different regions. Editing the global Curriculum terminology for your institution will allow your institution to choose what your users see in the platform rather than Learning Objectives. Note: This is a feature only available to users the designated permissions as assigned by the Admin of your institution. If you do not have this permission you will not be able to view or edit Curriculum Map Templates.

Step 1:

Click the Curriculum button from the menu at the top of the page.

Step 2:

Select the Templates tab on the left.

Step 3:

Click the gear icon on the top-right to view settings for your institution.

Step 4:

In the Global Terminology section, you can edit the term for Learning Objectives to match what is used in your institution. Type in the term inside the text-box under the name of your institution - this will be used across all of Chalk’s apps.

Step 5:

Click the Save button.
