Chapter 3: Comparing Curriculum Maps

Chalk Curriculum allows you to create organized unit plans in a centralized and collaborative way. Ensure alignment with multiple standards in your curriculum design across buildings and classrooms, and personalize your classroom instruction for outcome based education.

This learning guide will help familiarize you with the features of Chalk's Curriculum solution for users with Creator and Publisher privileges.

While this guide will cover many of the features available, please refer to our extensive support articles for specific questions or reach out to us at support@chalk.com or through our in-app Live Chat service (available Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm EST).

The following chapter of our learning guide will go over how to:

  • Compare multiple curriculum maps
  • Share or save your curriculum map comparison

Once you have created your curriculum maps, you will want to ensure that the standards and content are aligning with other maps within the same grade, or other grade levels for the subject within your institution. This will ensure that the curriculums being created by your institution, district or school are setting your students up for success!

What is the difference between horizontal and vertical alignment?

Horizontal Alignment/Articulation

There will be cases where you will want to understand how often and what type of skills, content and resources are being covered across different subjects given a phase of time. This will help ensure that there are no overlaps or gaps around content and skills being taught, as well as ensuring students are not being assessed too frequently or infrequently.

To do this, you will want to compare different subject curriculum maps within the same grade level. To learn how to compare maps, click here.

Vertical Alignment/Articulation

As part of ensuring your institution is accredited means having curriculum maps that are aligned from one grade level to the next. This will ensure that given a subject, each grade-level curriculum adequately covers the necessary topics, skills, standards and learning outcomes to ensure student success throughout their school career.

To do this, you will want to compare different grade level curriculum maps within the same subject matter. To learn how to compare maps, click here.
